What dietary adjustments can help with postpartum recovery and healing? @NutritionistHudaShaikh
Hi there, I hope you are well. Postpartum your caloric requirements go high because you have to provide milk to the baby. Ideally, 550-600kcals is what is needed above and beyond your normal caloric intake. Moreover, your body needs to heal, recover, and gain strength during this phase. - You will have to follow a 2hrly eating pattern where you can opt for fruits, soups, roasted chana, makhana, handful nuts, sweet potato tikkis, a katori upma, etc. - You have to start your morning with Soaked almonds, and a date or two. - Have a healthy breakfast which has enough protein for recovery, fibre for better digestion, and healthy fats for recovery, and strength. - Mid-meals are important. - Drinking enough water is necessary, you can even have coconut water twice or thrice a week. - Cut down your caffeine intake, and have two glasses of milk daily, or if that's not possible have 1 Bowl of curd two times a day. - Eat more green leafy veggies, cauliflower, French beans, okra, & drumsticks

Are there any foods I should avoid while breastfeeding? @Meens
Hi there, I hope you are well. Ideally, there are a few foods or beverages that you should be cautious while consuming. - Fish- High mercury levels are found is certain fishes such as swordfish, king mackerel, tile fish, shark, blue fin tuna, sea bass, etc. These fishes are best avoided rather you can opt for salmon, shrimp, sardines, etc. - Alcohol- Alcohol is best avoided. However, occasional consumption once in a while not more than 30ml is okay but do reconfirm with your doctor before consumption. - Caffeine - Two small cups of caffeine are fine to consume but one should avoid going overboard. - Packaged, processed, and refined foods- These are okay to be consumed occasionally but regular consumption can lead to weight gain, and increased cravings. Follow a healthy, well-balanced diet with loads of green leafy vegetables, yogurt, beans, pulses, lean meat, nuts, seeds, fruits, bell peppers in order to have a smooth sailing lactation phase :) I hope this helps. Take care ✨

I'm considering breastfeeding after birth. Are there any dietary choices I can make now to prepare my body for breastfeeding?
Hi there, I hope you are well. A healthy well balanced diet before, during, and after pregnancy will help in making breastfeeding a happy and easy journey for you and the baby. Here's what you must do. - Incorporate fibre, protein, and Omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. - For fibre, vegetables, fresh fruits, wholegrains, beans, lentils are great. - For protein opt for, lean meat ( chicken, and low-mercury fishes), dairy and dairy products, eggs, beans, lentils, seeds, and nuts. - Omega 3 fatty acids can come from foods like fish, flaxseeds, olive oil, walnuts, avocado, canola oil, etc. If you have been suggested some supplements, please take those as well. - Eat seasonal fruits, and vegetables, drink enough water, include foods rich in folate, iron, Vitamin A, calcium, iodine because these will form a good foundation for good health. Bell peppers, carrots, tomato, sweet potatoes, diary , leafy greens, beans, lean meat, nuts, seeds are good sources. I hope this helps, Take care ✨

Focus on making healthy choices to help fuel your milk production. Opt for protein-rich foods, such as lean meat, eggs, dairy, beans, lentils, and seafood low in mercury. Choose a variety of whole grains as well as fruits and vegetables.
